Default Engine misfire and hesitation

Just bought an '04 FXST with 7500 miles. This bike sat on the dealers lot for at least two months. The bike has been hesitating at all speeds and gears, with no consistency. I cleaned the air filter and the carb and one jet was slightly blocked. However, the problem is still occurring, although somewhat less frequently, after one 10 mile ride.

Could this be an ignition problem? New coil, wires or plugs needed?? The wires and plugs looked good but one can never be sure.

Help! I love this bike but can't ride it like this!

Make sure there is fresh gas and no water in the tank.

Run Seafoam (advance auto, napa, etc.) through the carb by adding it to a full tank of gas. Jets alone don't take care of clogged passages in a carb and if it was stored all the time without fuel treatment, that could be the problem.

Take it back to the dealer unless he warned you about this already.

Remember... SFAKISS... spark, fuel, air, keep it simple, er... silly <grin>

what jets in the carb? id say you need at least a 48pilot 190 main. 2.5 turns on the mix screw.

+1 on cwsharp's advice, then go take a blast down the slab for about a 100 miles.

And I should have said that it's highly unlikely that there is anything wrong with your plug wires or coil... spark plugs might be one thing to look at, but try what I suggested first. If you had deposits on one jet, then you've probably got gunk elsewhere and seafoam has salvaged many a poor running bike that has been in storage.
