Default Bars slipped while riding!

Since getting the Bones and riding it my worst fear has been the leverage that can be placed on the bars and making them slip. Until today however it has proved an unfounded concern.

I hit a bump at 65 and my bars dropped 2 inches! Scared the crap out of me, but otherwise I was fine. I pushed them back into position and then stood up and put my weight in them to see if they would slip again. They didn't. Until I hit another bump about 5 miles down the road.

I'm at work now so I'll have a 55 mile ride with the loose bars. Yay...

I haven't cared for the bars and I think this is a good excuse as any to just order the bars I want. The narrow beach bars in black.

From what I can tell this is a fairly common issue, but how can I tighten the bars without stretching threads in the risers? I was thinking a thin piece of aluminum or something inside the riser wrapped around the bar in the mean time. But what kind. and where would I get it?

BTW I checked the riser bolts and they are as tight as I can get them.

How do you stop this from happening on even higher apes?

Someone recommended slicing a section of an aluminum beverage can. I have not tried it though.

I would check the torque. Look for the torque values and make sure there at that setting.

That would make me $hit up my back right there.

My beachbars started slipping a bit too. Riser bolts torqued to spec too. Sorted it by cutting a strip of 200 grit sandpaper, folded double and stuck in upper part riser. Retorqued everything and now solid as a rock.

I would suggest using some shim material, either brass or aluminum. Should be able to pick it up at an auto parts store. It comes in various thickness, measured in thousandth of an inch. Good luck.

You can start by sanding some of the powder coat off the inside of the risers. I have nash bars and they aren't knurled but have put a strip of dry wall screen in there and they hold tight. But yeah have heard of shim made from a can working as well. I did strip out my risers though, put in heli coils and they are rock solid now.

When I put the narrow beach bars on my Bones I made some beer can shims and used an automatic center punch to put some teeth in the smooth steel of the bars

My BR bars have knurling and my Carlini risers have a hidden set screw that makes a for secure mount.

Holly crap is this really a common problem with the stock bars? I guess I have something else to worry about while I'm dodging cagers.
