Default help with handlebar install

I am going to install apes on my 09 train and was wondering if anyone has just disconnected the fuel line but not the cross over and slide tank back without removing it to get to wiring plug.If so did you have to remove the console or disconnect the fuel pump. Thanks for any help.

Use a couple towels, disconnect fuel line, take out main fuse, unbolt tank, slide tank back, use a towel to lay back of tank on, then cover tank with another. You should be able to get wires out neck without going any farther. Be sure to be carefully with your fuel line, if it gets folded I'd be willing to bet it would be ruined.

That is how I did it on my 01 Fatboy few months ago. Just ran most of the gas out...sifend the rest (makes tank easier to handle). Disconected the battery and fuel line...slide back and got to wires.
