This is a repeat post. I think posting it here may get a better responce. I have a Fat Boy Lo with 4200 miles and I already need a new back tire. I keep the bike at the HD recomended pressure. Is this normal mileage for the 200mm tire and what brand are you guys using. Also I am not an aggressive rider.
Did your FBL come with the D407 or D401?
I would say if the D407, doesn't surprise anyone - HD does not have it listed anymore.
I got a new D401, waiting to be put on soon. I got under 4000 mi on the original D407 and it is near gone. Straight divided highways are bad for those soft compound tires. Twisty roads gets you off the centre - so an aggressive rider should get better tire wear, right?
A buddy of mine got 1st summer out of his D407, 3 years out of his original D401 front, and is still on his second rear tire, the D401.
If you got a D401, your tire wear sucks! Dealer won't do anything about it, I tried.

I am fairly aggressive...and I have gone through 2 rears and 1 front in 10000 miles. Third rear tire is a Pirelli .... other 200mm rear tire bikes with the Dunlop factory rubber getting 4000 to 6000....
I can't afford to go through so many tires....I'm gonna see what the Pirelli gives me. Also....don't buy tires through dealer....stupid prices.
I don't think I am heavy on the back braking, If I can I engine brake. I live in Fl. so I have no wear on the sides.
What I have heard about living in Florida (from relatives there), car tires wear out rapidly there due to the extreme summer heat on the roadways. The asphalt gets hot and eats up the rubber.
So, with that in mind, cycle tires should have the effect.
Mike, do your automobile tires wear out prematurely as well? That could be the clue.
my lo came stock with a D408 on the back and 407 on the front. I changed the back at 7400 miles...it was a little over due. went with the D401-hoping for 10+K
