Default Heritage Fender on a Fatboy...

So I am putting this Heritage fender on my Fatboy and I notice there is no cutout for the 'black box' like on the fatboy fender under the seat (see photo). Does anyone know if I can just mount the box in the same area? If not what can I do short of cutting on this new fender? Thanks!

Looks like a pretty easy cut?

BoysZ,

You may have different year fenders. As an example, my 03 service manual shows that all 03 Softail rear fenders have cut-outs for an ECM. I did however run into a similar problem mounting a Fatboy fender on to a Nightrain. The cut-out required minor trimming. Prior to making any cuts, I recommend removing your old fender and seat, unplug and set aside your ECM and "Mock Up" the new fender to ensure that everything will align correctly.

I put a 2008 deluxe rear fender on my 2004 fatboy and it bolted right up- everything fit. (even the electrical plug was the same)

that has to be a pre 2000 fender as everything 2000 and up has the cut out for the ECM. Get busy with the dremel and hack that bad boy up.

All that being said about the year and so on... If you deceide to cut the fender.... Undercut it by 1/4 on all three sides then "fold" under that 1/4 inch on all 3 sides to prevent haveing a rough edge and also to low down some rusting... be sure to wipe it down good before painting and sealing the area.

They started that in mid 96...first mock up the fender and make sure it fits your bike. Then cover area(or whole fender) in blue painters tape. Carefully measure and mark cut on tape with sharpie. Cut with dremel, die grinder, or 4 1/2" grinder with cut-off wheel. If you are careful you will just have a cut edge to put touch-up paint on and it will be covered by the box and the seat. I have cut several with no problems
