Point taken. Poor choice of words on my part. Again though, I'll reiterate; I wouldn't have done that to him.

Yeah don't understand why you couldn't push the bike off to the side? Is it illegal to push a bike without a DOT helmet on? Can you push a car without your seat belt on?

In Missouri, I would have just taken the helmet ticket too. Our helmet law is a $25, max one ticket a day, no point, non-moving violation.

So for a low price of $25 a day Missouri will grant you the ability to ride with no helmet.

So you knew you were not legal yet you are mad at the cops? What does it matter how he handled it if the solution was on you from the beginning which was to follow regs?

Let me clarify, I have little love for law enforcement and I think a lot of the regs out there can be bogus. On the other hand things are what they are and more often than not, guys like you and me don't have the recourse to go against them the way we want. Especially when (like another responder pointed out) you are dealing with human beings who will always enforce things based not just on what's in the books but also on how they FEEL about you or the situation. I have no doubt that there are lots of good cops out there just trying to do their job but more often than not, I have run-ins with the biggest of ****** who act totally empowered and better than you by that badge on their uniform.

I don't follow every single rule in the book but I do so knowing that I am assuming the risk of getting caught and that the outcome can go any number of ways, none of which are what I think they should be. It all begins with our decision to follow the rules or not which makes it kind of hard (at least to me) to cry "FOUL" at the people who whose job it is to do something about it.

Anyway. Sorry to hear about your luck. Hopefully its the last time you have to endure something like that.

Well the law in louisiana is 15" above the lowest part of your seat. it doesnt matter how tall you are, or what type of bars (or seat) you have. as you can see in my sig pic the other set up i had, i was over 15" with, so it was illegal. the only explanation that i have heard is lack of control when your hands are above your shoulders. but my hands are right at my shoulders. He told me if I would have had a DOT approved helmet I could have rode off without having being towed, with the bars as is. im just glad I hadnt been drinking. needless to say, i wore the full face today, but havent moved the bars.

I must have passed by a good cop the other day as he was aiming his radar gun at me. I looked down at the speedo and I was doing 45 in a 35 mph zone. Kept looking for him to pull me, but never saw him again.

I don't know why ape hangers would be illegal. Is big brother concerned about your hands falling asleep? I see you typed in an answer right before I posted the question!

I run 18" apes on my softail here in PA. Thankfully there is no restrictions on the bar height here but from what I have found there is no facts about bars above your shoulders being dangerous...if thats the case id love to show them i can ride just as good if not better with my set-up. The only thing I was able to dig up about the bar height is going back to the hells angels and other gangs that had apes due to people running barb wire across the road and the high bars prevented them from getting ripped off the bike or decapitated. So basically the gov't didn't like that i suppose..who knows.. either way sorry to here you got a DH cop...maybe his old lady love harley guys haha
