You live in a country where the government believes we are to stupid to be safe so they must create laws to penalize the majority for the small few who have no regard for their own life. An 18 year old kid wraps his death rocket around a tree after missing a curve at 95mph. the state rep makes a case that if he was wearing a helmet his life could have been spared. The helmet was not the issue here, its an inexperienced rider on a light bike which goes way too fast, why don't they outlaw the death rockets?
Bars, pipes and helmets are laws many of us breaks in one form or another. I don't agree with most of the laws or more importantly how they get created but the fact is most of us know the laws and the penalties for breaking these laws. I'm sorry you had to get your bike towed but I am sure you knew this was a possibility as you pulled out of the driveway this morning and as you stated, you knew you were riding dirty so no reason to be upset. Tomorrow will be a better day and you will soon forget about the tow bill.
quote; Another thing to consider is legal action. Let's say the guy wrote a ticket for the helmet and let you go. You then get into an accident and hurt a pedestrian, and yourself. Because he let you go, his *** is on the line (along with his job). He acted the way he did because of lawyers, and this personal injury obsessed nation.
how is his *** on the line? if your in a cage (car) and get ticketed for a headlight out they dont make you tow the car. here in nc you have 3 days to get it fixed drive all you.
I have a question for the cops that are on here. I have been told that if I go to another state who's handle bar requirements are different than my home state, I could get a ticket. I.E. Here is AR its shoulder and Missouri its 15". Is this true?
those of you who took the time to read the OP know that he's not pissed that the cop gave him a ticket. that's his job, and he did just that.
he's pissed that he took it a step further by not even allowing the OP to push the bike off to the side of the road. WTF is the justification there?
laws are laws and we all break them and when we get caught we should get ticktets. those are just facts. what doesn't make sense to me is the whole "don't touch your bike now that i gave you a ticket" thing that the cops have going on.
like someone mentioned. if i get pulled over in my truck for illegal tints or a busted tail light, i get a ticket and i'm allowed to drive away and get these things fixed.
but if you get busted for loud pipes or a novelty helmet you've gotta fix this **** on the spot or get your bike towed?
can someone explain to me why there's a difference in the way these things are handled?

Yes. Same as a helmet law, seatbelt, etc. If you are out of state, some LEO will give you a warning. Some will site "ignorance of the law in the State you are traveling is no excuse".

You can still get a ticket. Its like in Arkansas you don't have to wear a helmet unless you're under 21, but when I drive into TN, MO, LA, ect I've got to have a helmet on. And unless its brand new I didn't think AR had a restriction on handlebars.
Sorry must have over looked that it had already been answered....
if they have handling issues with tall handlebars they should also make undersized
steering wheels illegal in cages. same difference maybe ban tilt aswell
Tread lightly as there is a no LEO bashing on the forums. That being said. I never mess with people on bikes for any type of violation like helmet or bars. 15 inches above the seat is the law in Ohio. It's a gamble when you get stopped for something like that. It's all the officers discretion.
Just curious as to why it is when the guy feels he got sqrewed by a particular cop it always brings out you guys to make a statement like "tread lightly", is this some kind of LEO censorship bullshit, the guys simply stating his opinion.
