I'm looking to go with the Fat Boy Lo seat as well... should fit according to this earlier thread; but I haven't tried it yet

That thread is 3 years old. You might want to look at the HD access site or catalogue again. Those 08 stock seats still used the bracket with the 2 posts and you don't have the holes in your fender.
And you have to be aware that the HD catalogue does NOT have the stock seats in them. The seats in the catalogue are indeed the ones that will fit because they use the next hole in the fender.

As an owner of a Crossbones and having owned a FatBoy Lo seat as well as having swapped the rear fender on my Crossbones to that of a Fatboy Lo I can tell you with certainty that the Fatboy Lo seat will NOT fit the stock Crossbones. As my good friend Rakthi has pointed out, the Fatboy seat uses two bolt holes side by side and just over 5 inches apart. That stock Bones fender does not have them and the profile of the fender in the area just above the ECM is a bit different. The area of the fender on the Bones where the ECM bolts to is flat while but on the Fatboy it is recessed a bit which gives the Fatboy seat the ability to sit over the ECM without actually pressing on it. I think you could make it work but it would require some modification (drilling two additional holes and buying the necessary seat mounting bracket, nylon washers and seat nuts) but I am not sure how well it would work given the different fender geometry.

Another point that Rakthi makes that is correct is that accessory seats that are supposed to fit both Fatboy and Crossbones do not use the same single bolt hole that the stock Crossbones uses for the battery cover nor the dual holes that the stock Fatboy seat uses. Those accessory seats are longer on the back than a Fatboy Lo seat and reach up on the fender to use the hole that is typically used to attach the grab strap underneath a passenger pillion.

Honestly, I found the Fatboy Lo seat to be extremely comfortable but I did not like at all how it looked on the Bones. The Bones lines are more classic and curved and the Lo's seat is kind of angular and modern. I thought they completely clashed. I sold my Lo seat and went instead with a Deluxe Seat and Touring Pillion. They fit the style of the Bones much better. The Deluxe seat is nice and deep like the Lo's but it is not as narrow between the thighs like the Lo's which I don't like and I hope to reshape the padding in that area so that I can bring my feet in a little better when stopped.

Hope this helps.

asg13, When I bought my Crossbones it came with the Brawler solo seat. I added the passenger pillion and the tall detachable sissy bars. Now after a year or so of riding on it (the pillion seat) my wife had enough. I reasearched a bunch of seats and finially came down to the Sundowner (HD). This seat uses the same hole as the pillion seat from the Brawler. Like I said it takes about a minute to change them out. There are so many different types of seats it will make your head spin and not getting to actually sit on or see them in person makes it even more difficult.
