Default test rode a heritage, but......

the shocks were set on # 2 and were too soft. the dealer told us it would take almost two hours to readjust the shocks to a firmer position and would not change them for us. before i buy a new Heritage i would like to know if this is indeed true ? if so , WHY ?

a dealer with a lift and the special tool can do it in 10 minutes. I can do it at my house in 20 with no lift. They can be adjusted stiffer, that is true, And heavier fork oil also helps.

<Whistle Blowing> BS on the play... 15yd penalty!

Tell them, if your gonna spend $20,000 at thier dealership, they can spend the 20 mins adjusting the shocks... or else you will find another dealership that will!

I have the Harley shock tool and an old 1 1/16 wrench cut down short and it only takes me 5-10 min max to adjust the shocks with out a lift. I'd look at another Dealer.

It sounds like they really don't want you as a customer. Go to your next closest dealer and talk to them.

I'm not sure what that means. Since a ST does not have a stepped system like a dyna or XL there is no 1,2.3..... You have to spin each shock in or out to adjust the spring load.

I say the dealer doesn't want your business but honestly, I'm not sure what difference it would make, the shocks are at their softest setting from the dealer and set for a 160 Lb load. Max load will add about another 100 lbs to the load capacity. Are you a real big guy or were you test riding two up? I would be surprised if you got it to bottom out one up unless you top out above 260. I'm 235 and I can ride in the softest setting without bottoming. It does float a bit more than I like so I push it all the way up. It is much stiffer but this way I don't have to re-adjust for two up riding and I find it tracks better on the highway this way.

Not saying to go spend your money with a stealer that won't help you make the decision but an adjustable setting shouldn't be what makes or breaks the deal in my mind.

Im 200 and ride solo most of the time but we do some 2 up and i also carry a load when we travel, and my shocks are at the factory setting and i have never bottomed out. But i do think about them being a little stiffer would help out when we are on the twisties some. But thats just me thinking. But over all i like the ride very much or i would change it.

Agree'd...

Another thing. If that dealer is anything like my local dealer... the mech's are probably all busy. Unless it's an emergency I have never seen my dealer pull a mech off a job just to satisfy me for anything. I understand this and would be a bit po'd if a mech was pulled of my bike to adjust shocks. He might have mean't would be two hours before they could get to it and get the job done. Not to mention they would have to put them back probably as they wouldn't want to leave them at the setting for you. Just a guess anyway.
