So then a DOT approved helmet with a Quick Disconnect could come off just as easy as a Novelty right? Or do I have this wrong?

You do have that wrong brother. DOT quick disconnects are to a minimum spec that will remain fastened, unless damaged at which point replace or ditch it. OR you haven't engaged it properly.

Good quality nov-brain-buckets MAY have a good quality quick disconnect, however they may not be to the DOT spec.

The D-ring design is a no-brainer when you think about how it works, and if your an old-school dude, that is probably the only way you may feel comfortable.

My 750$ SHOEI is a d-loop. sweet bucket.
My 250$ NOLAN Modular, hase a quick disconnect, slide/click type of chin strap. Nice design and it aint coming loose.

I think its perty much up to your ability to judge the mechanism and your comfort factor with its design "apparent" strength, when dealing with Nov's.

Hope i haven't stated the obvious.

The fake **** is about the weight of wearing a hat ... that's the draw in the hot weather. Your head does not sweat as bad. I go back and forth.
Crazy thing is, if you go on a multi state trip, some states enforce DOT helmets, some don't, some allow no helmets. Better off just taking the DOT to prevent a 75 dollar ticket.

After putting the bike down last year, and getting shot between the eyes with a rock kicked-up by a truck. I will never ride without a full face bucket.

My Novelty helmet with a Quick disconnect held up fine when I went down last year. But I may be one in a million, that's what my wife tells me all the time anyway..
