Quote : Not that it matters what you think, jackhole.

Then why react upon it ehh?
I can understand your preordered customs.
I can't understand your naivety riding without oil.
Any even little experienced rider knows that oil warning is vital.
But not YOU..and you will have a hard time to prove your case.
Good luck with it..sincerely.

I can't remember, but did you or the dealer install all of the add-ons?? Was this the very first time you cranked it up and rode it?

Dealer installed everything. I rode it a little a few days ago, then took it out yesterday. There didn't seem to be anything wrong with it when I saw the light, except that is stalled at a light, so I went up the street to a place I could pull over and checked the oil level, which was fine (I guess my lack of mechanical knowledge caused me to not understand the oil pump issue). Called the dealership and spoke to the only guy there at the time, the sale manager, and explained what was going on. He said it sounded like it needed to be "reflashed", whatever that is (sounded like an electronics issue), and that I should just get it home, which was only about 5 miles away or so. Just as I was getting close, it started acting up.

The dealership called me this morning and sent a truck out to get it. There aren't many dealerships in this area, the next closest is an hour away, but I think they will be honest and take care of me rather than have their name tarnished. They have been really good people so far.

Gotcha.. a little clearer now... at least it was the Sales Manager who should remember you and the bike and not one of the "apparel babes".. he might get chewed out for telling you to ride it home, but I wouldn't think he'd deny telling you to...

Wasn't sure if you brought it home, rode it some and everything was fine then installed the mods yourself... not that any of your mods should have any effect on the oil pump!

Hey Brother,

Do not fret too much about it, the MOCo better take care of this, the only thing you are losing is a couple of weeks of riding.
I say There are only 2 stories here, either the oil light was on and you called the dealer and they told you it is electronics and try to get home (Truth always save you), if the dealer denies the call, then the heck with it, there was no oil light also I would say.
I would be sad to miss on Americade if you were planning to go, but otherwise, Glad you are OK and bike will be fixed..

Good luck.

Wabbit,
You should be fine bro! You have no fault in this, no matter what jackhole says lol. My coin is on the dealer being stand up and taking care of this.

If not, then as previously stated, the Lemon law will protect you in this case. Let us know how it turns out.

Oil light on and the engine losing power or stalling at idle = seized up engine.

it sounds like the engine is toast, as previously suggested push for a replacement "new" engine. I would not want the dealer to rebuild, there are too many things that could cause problems later due to the lack of oil now. Also your bike is too new so dont let them try to pass a factory remanufactured engine off on you. They may very well be just as good but you have a new bike and should have a "new" engine in it.

Best of luck, let us know the outcome.

And thanks for serving

Some States don't have a lemon law that cover motorcycles. My cuz found out this yr that here in Ind, they don't per say. but they have laws that make company's fulfill there obligations on the Warranty.

Thinking if ur had oil in tank and Ur pump went south, then its a warranty issue.
Did U check to see if there was oil in the Prim or tranny. could be they didn't fill one of those to..

I'd just say wait and see what the dealer finds and what he does...

The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) is a United State federal law. Enacted in 1975, it is the federal statute that governs warranties on consumer products.

Trans and Primary oil levels don't put the oil light on.

AND, there are plenty of issues with these bikes turning on that light with no oil problems whatsoever so I would have taken the dealers advice too. HOWEVER, that said, most of the issues that I have read regarding false oil lights also turn on the security (key) light.

I think a new motor is a done deal here.

I would personally talk them into a 110 if I could. Not that you need the speed or additional power but if you have it you CAN use it. The only downside I can think of with having a 110 over the 96 is that more CI's will use more fuel. I can't imagine much more, but more just the same.

If it is a $500 upgrade, I would do it, if more, I would think twice.
