I changed out my handlebars on my 05 Heritage yesterday with some chubby RK bars. I ran the wires internally which looks awesome but now my break lights wont come on.
All other functions of the switches work perfectly which makes me think removing the deutsch connector and then installing it after routing the wires worked out ok.
I did put a shim on the break lever as shown in the manual but it got knocked out part way during the install before everything was back together.
My question is can a broken front break light switch cause no break lights? By no break lights I mean that when the front lever is pulled no break light comes on, same when you depress the rear break pedal. I have running lights and turn signals though.
Any help would be awesome...
Does the rear brake light work with the foot pedal? Did you change levers as well? Some levers don't sit the same in the housing and have trouble pushing the brake switch. My buddy changed levers and the new levers did not hit the brake switch. We put some thick double stick tape on the portion of the lever that is supposed to hit the switch and that fixed it.
I had this happen on my wife's bike..I let her replace the grips..and she broke the little nipple that the lever depresses. So if the lever does not press the nipple..the lights get full voltage(like the brake is on)..so when you press the foot brake it looks like it is not working..but if you press the nipple the the foot brake..you should see the brightness change..
Thanks for all the input...Turns out that the break lights were on all the time making me think that nothing worked when the levers were pressed.
I did break the front brake light switch...what a PITA, but got it changed out and everything works great.
Even got in a ride yesterday evening with the new bars, love the new look and feel over stock bars!!!
Now to find some risers that fit 1 1/4" bars that will give me 2-3.5" of rise with 1"-2" of pullback that don't break the bank and don't take 7-14 days to be delivered....
Once again thanks.
