Angry 2003 FXSTB Electrical System issue

I am new around here, but just completed an ape hanger install... decided to try it on my own after reading the posts here.

I've got everything installed and put back together, but when I go to turn on the ignition, the horn goes off, and the blinker lights flash. The first time I tried to test the electrical, it was just the lights flashing. I could change between high/low beam, and the horn worked as tested.

After it sat 10 mins, I tried turning on again, now no matter whether I turn to ACC or IGN, horn goes off, turn signals flash, and remain flashing even when I turn switch to off. Horn remains on and won't die. I tried to depress both turn signal buttons simultaneously thinking the hazards were on, no joy....

I really don't want to trailer the bike to the dealer, any tips or ideas where I have gone wrong? i double checked all the electrical Deutsch connections when I did the wire extension... the only thing different, is that there is no mini-tach install w/ the apes.

After 2 and half days of working on this, you can bet this is frustrating

Thanks/ JT

wow, no ideas from me at all. I extended the wires on my 05', and I just cut the stock wires and soddered in about six inches of new. did not mess with connectors or anything.

Yea, I'm at my wits end with it... can't figure this out, and I don't have a way to read the error codes that are probably behind this... I guess it's off to the stealer we go

I would guess a short to ground... or two things swapped in their hookup. If you don't have a shop manual with a wiring diagram it would be hard to trace this down. If you do, get your ohmeter out and start checking for continuity where it shouldn't be.

Sounds like you have some wires in the wrong locations. You need a wireing diagram to figure it out

Yea, I do have the manual thankfully, so I am going back to the book again. Maybe I should have triple checked the wiring... that may be what the optional CASE OF BEER tool did.......Overnight, I came up with the thought that perhaps one of the wires from the old Mini-tach install is causing the grief. I'll try that first, and see where it gets me.... then it's off with the tank and back to the book :-)

If providing power (turning the ignition on) honks the horn and makes the turn signals flash without pressing any buttons I'd say there is no question that you've got some wires crossed.

On that bike are the horn, TS and brake light on the same circuit? If they are that may make your trouble shooting a little easier. When wiring a bike or disarming a bomb it's best to leave the alcoholic beverages for the after celebration.

I would suggest you disconnect all the wires and connect one at a time, checking to see where each one goes and then checking to see if it works. As in connect one wire for turn signal, then test it and move to the next one. Other than that a wiring diagram is the only option.

Also check at your controls that you did not end up pinching a couple of wires when it was tightened down.

If not, I agree with above, disconnect all but the main connector for power and add them back one at a time until you get the problem again,

Well, thanks for the replies (I had to fly to Singapore and could not finish the installation). I found the problem alright, it turned out to be two Deutche pins that somehow came in contact with each other where the Novello wiring extensions were put on. I should have probably soldered them the first time (which I have done now). Scoot is back to being electrically sound, now.... bleeding the front brake and off to test the Gangster Apes....
