Hi, Let me start off by saying I have a 2009 XL1200C and I recently bought new handlebars. I have a service manual and I am pretty comfortable doing my own work but I have had issues with these bars.
I got everything installed and tested (lights, horn, ect.) but during the test ride my turn signals, horn and headlight cut out. The headlight was due to a blown lighting fuse and after replacing that and the accessory fuse I still didn't get any power to the horn or turn signal switches.
Since then I have removed the hand controls and checked for cuts or pinches in the wiring, replacing what was necessary as I went with a sauntering iron/heat shrink. Once everything was re-wired and back together I still was not getting any power to my turn signals or horn. Now when I turn the key to "on" it immediately blows my lighting fuse.
Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Your query is a common one after changing bars and is probably down to a wiring problem. You need to go over your work from scratch, preferably using a multi-meter, checking each wire in turn for continuity and any damage or cross-connection. There ain't any other way! If your bike was working fine before you started, it can be fine again after you sort out the problems that have been introduced.....
