Default Tread bars showing on Metzlers

I just noticed that I am now hitting the tread bars on the front and rear of my ME 880's. I may put close to 1,000 miles on the bike this coming up weekend riding 2 up, do you think I can squeeze it out on the rear?

1000 miles is about 10% of your tire life. Tires get slipperier near the end of their life, especially in the rain. There are a couple square inches of rubber between you and the road.

You might make it.

You going to have to change the tires regardless, so why not change them now and have the piece of mind. If you werent at all worried about it, you wouldnt be asking the question.

I actually did find a dealer who said he should be able to get me a set of Cobras in the next couple of days, I hope they come in without a hitch. I didn't expect the responses I got, I wasn't worried about rain as its going to be dry here in CO. I was worried about hitting cord, of which I have been guilty of before to be honest. I did get the front wheel off today after work and dropped it off at the tire dealer. If all goes well I can pick it up mounted tomorrow and then bring him the rear tire.

If you're just to the wear bars now, I doubt you will see cord in the next 1,000 miles. Tires are easier to puncture when they have less tread. You've made the right decision to change them before taking off on your trip. Have fun!
