Default cutting down windsheild

I have a HD detachable king size windsheild on my Fatboy and would like to cut it down a few inches. Any recomendations on what type of cutting tool to use?

I would call around to some of the local glass and mirror shops to see if they would do it for you. Every time I tried to cut that stuff it turns into a minor, or maybe not so minor disaster. If your just interested in a straight line cut its fairly simple, score it and break it. Then sand the edge down. But for curves and complex cuts you need to really have a lot of practice and the right tools or it will come out like crap, or just wreck it.

You could also get a replacement piece of Lexan or Polycarbonate that's shorter.

Here's all the info you will need. It's really not that hard to do.

Hope this helps.

This is the method that I used, but I used my Dremel tool to do the cutting. It took a little time to get the right amount of pressure on the plexi regulated to allow the blade to move through it without too much melting. But the Dremel allowed me to be worry less because that tool is so small it can't do a whole lot of damage too quick. By the way I trimmed off 3.5 inches from the top because I like to look over it instead of through the thing. I love the height now, and hope that its still good after I either have my seat shaved this winter, or check out the Mustang.

Fianally got up the nerve to cut my windsheild down and it turned out great, looks like a factory job. Taped it used a jig saw filed down the rough edges and sanded. Didn't have the ***** to usea belt sander billnourse post!

Ditto, Used the fine tooth jigsaw and then used 3M sanding pad, gave the edge a nice finished look. No issue at all, took about 30 min. including set up, tape, cut, sand and cleanup.

Good Luck.
