Default lowering ?

Will I be able to lower the rear-end on my deluxe by truning the adjusting plates on the shock canisters?

Has anybody done this?

How low can you go?

How many complete turns did move your adjusting plates?

What are the pros and cons?

Sorry for all the questions

Thanks,

Roman

Default RE: lowering ?

I just bought a 07 Softail Deluxe. Seat height is 24.5 inches LADENED (a 180 pound person fully seated on the bike, according to the user's manual). I don't weight 180 and needed it lowered another inch.

Harley sold me (and installed) two adjustable bolts for the rear shocks. I don't know the manufacturer of the part (bolts) but the part number is AN17-100. They were $64.95 (with $80 labor and $50 in "Misc. Parts/Supplies" [:@] ). It allows you to lower the Deluxe one more inch max.

chilango13, turning the "plates" wont lower your bike, all that does is change the pre-load on the shocks. You will have to buy the "kit" that changes the shock mounting studs to give you the adjustability to lower it. H-D has a kit for 100.00 (big surprise eh?) that works great, plenty of other brands will work good too.

If you don't want to get new shocks (hd 1" lowered), then put extensions as I did, you can from stock to "rigid" adjusting the nuts. I have "White Brothers" extensions.

Regards.
