I want to assemble a tool roll and would like some opinions as to what to carry for an FLSTC. Don't want to carry my entire toolbox but just a few tools that make sense. Any suggestions based on experience ? I was thinking along the lines of:
Regular pliers
Needle nose pliers
Wire cutters
1 flat & 1 phillips screwdriver
Medium size vise grips
(2) 6" crescent wrenches
Folding torx wrench set
Folding allen wrench set (?)
Small bundle of wire tie-wraps
Roll of electric tape
Comments / suggestions ?
Thanks,
Personally, I would trade the first 5 items in for a good Leatherman or Gerber multi tool, lose one of the crescent wrenches, maybe lose the torx, yes on the rest plus aforementioned flashlight. Keep in mind you aren't going to have any parts, so it's not like you are going to make any major repairs along the road. My on the road issues have been flats, loose battery cable and some loose pegs.
I use a small vice grips
a Cheap set of torx, with an extension, socket wrench.
One of the multi-tools that Lowes sells, it has different sockets on it.
small, very small can of wd40, like 3oz size, and locktite.
I also have a bottle of slim and a can of air.
I have a gerber tool too. man, their expensive!
Thats it.
As Smoky Unich used to say. "With today's modern cars the best thing you can have is a quarter for a phone call". I guess now that translates to 'a cell phone'.
don't forget a couple cans of beer......My kit is very similar to the OP but with just one crescent, addition of a plug socket, a few common ratchet wrenches, and a couple of spark plugs. I also got a roadside tire plug kit that has 6 CO2 cylinders and a valve stem device to inflate the tire...hopefully that would get me to the next Indy or dealer.
Lots of good suggestions, have to do some planning & rethink my original list. Will let y'all know what I come up with, but something like a tool roll or bag is going to be an evolving deal, plus we all have our favorites.
find multi tools that will cover the most uses with the least bulk. remember you won't be doing any major repairs on the road. just trying to have enough to limp home and maybe help out a bro on the road. if you ever prospect for an mc, plan on having one saddlebag full haha
