I got one of the HD switchback jackets, I havent used it for cold weather yet, but I used it a few weeks ago, about 85 degrees out, and used it as a mesh jacket, it worked pretty good, nice and cool, has the shoulder and elbow pads, pretty good jacket
I knew a soldier, that was drunk, speeding, and not wearing a DOT helmet, the family still got the SGLI.
if you are not wearing the right PPE, the military will still pay out the SGLI, but if you get hurt, and you arent wearing the PPE you could be responsible for the bills.
If temps are 35-55, I wear leather jacket and chaps. Warmer than that I wear a textile armored jacket that I originally bought as a temporary jacket til I found leather. It is much more versatile, and I wear it 80% of the time although it is not cool looking. I haven't found any overpants, but I am going to have to, because I need something for touring in hot weather.
So I would get a good textile jacket with matching overpants if you only want 1 suit.
HD Basic Skins leather jacket, 6 years old and other than bugs it is fine. Never thought about one of those fancy breathing jackets, but probably will if I go down one hot summer day.
what kind of riding jackets do you wear? what brands should i look at? any good websites for shopping?
In our short winters I use an old....and I mean old.... leather jacket....like what you have on a football. In the summer .... I would like to wear a jacket for safety....and I must have 5 of them...from 200 dernier open weave to HD fabric...all just too hot in FL.
I picked up the joe rocket dry tech nano jacket. Have only worn it a few times. I live right off the front gate of base, and don't usually wear the jacket to and from work since it's less than a mile. The jacket is supposed to be waterproof, and has a vent system for warmer riding just haven't tested the waterproofness out yet.
