Default Softail Shock Bolt adventure.

I broke another shock bolt on my '98 FLSTC over the weekend. This is the second time this has happened to me. I'm wondering if this is a common enough occurence for the softail or if I might have an issue with the shock. Any advice would be welcomed. The bolts are fun to remove once they have sheared off. Here is how I accomplished the task. First I used a left handed drill bit to drill directly in the center of the remaining stud. It didn't remove the stud however, but it did get it to the top of the threads. So I took my wire welder and placed a nut with a smaller diameter hole than that of the stud centered over the stud. I spot welded the stud to the nut, then cooled it of quickly with some penetrating oil. I waited just a few minutes and twisted the stud right out with a wrench. I've done this many times over the years on farm equipment, but had never tried it with a stud that small. With the wire welder it was a breeze. Still concerned that I may have a bad shock. Like I said this is the second time I've had to do this, however it was two separate bolts. I'm thinking about changing the other two just because.
