I think its because the sidewalks are farther apart giving less support thus the need for higher pressure for better tire life. I have no facts to back this theroy up. I just pulled this out of my ***
Everything I have researched suggests my 200mm tire is not going to last as long as a narrower tire. I specifically stated my tire size when I started this thread so folks could make realistic comparisons, "apples to apples" so to speak. I have a Metzeler tire on order...I will certainly be keeping an eye on this one and doing a mileage comparison with the stock Dunlop that came with the bike.

I just replaced mine for the second time and the guys at Wheel Works recommended the new Dunlop 401 to replace the stock 407. They say they've found that it should last me closer to 10K miles. They did not recommend the Metzler as a replacement for the 200 tire because they say it seems to wear as fast or faster than the old Dunlop 407 did. They are a Metzler shop and recommended the Dunlop 401 for my Lo. But they still do recommend the Metzler for my Deluxe that runs a thinner tire. I've had the Metzler on my Deluxe for over a year now and I love it. It'll be interesting to see how different Harley's new 401 runs and wears. I hope to get more than the 5K miles I got out of the previous 2 Dunlop 407 tires. Good Luck!
Ever since the 200's came out they've been known for getting low miles out of them.
Don't know why but it is what it is.
My Stock HD, 150-80-16's lops 401's rears on the Heritage have gone 10k,10k and 11k.
Front lop is a 402 and changed her at 20k, really ite still had more.
Most are just 2 rears to 1 front for replacement on most bikes.
I've gotten 10.000 miles out of my rear tyre, might get another 1,000 out of my front but I think I'l get it change soon. Both tyres are Dunlop, first set.
