Hi Guys,
Was riding my 2011 fatboy and noticed the front brake master cylinder was leaking. When I got home I wiped it off, backed out the screws and tightened the cap to 15 inch pounds, what the spec is in the service manual. This slowed it way down to a very slow seeping. Would you try to get rid of the leak altogether or just leave it as is? Also, my front brake lever engages right away, is there any way to get a little "play" in it?
Thanks!!
I'm thinking that this is covered under warranty so I would take it by the dealer and have them fix it. If they won't or you don't want to take it to the dealer then you probably need a new gasket to get the leak to stop completely. I wouldn't let it just leak because you could one day squeeze the lever and find nothing there.
The gasket is not sold separately, you'll have to buy a new cap for the MC that has a the new gasket attached to it if its not covered under warranty, which it should be. it cost me $30 for a new one. Had the same probably in March on my 09 Fatboy.
The gasket is sold separately, my dad just put 2 new ones on his front and rear master cylinder. and yeah, make the dealer do it, otherwise it's just a gasket. A friend of mine, who builds bikes, coincidentally was just talking with me about this.. at the maximum you can remove the lid of the master cylinder 4-5 times before you need to replace the rubber gasket, since it never compresses the same way each time you tighten it. Quick fix if you want to do it yourself
