Easier to customize Fatboy or Fatboy Lo?
Anything is possible with powdercoating. Question you need to ask yourself is how far are you willing to go and what is the final end result.
Do you want a Black Betty that is totally blacked out? Or do you want a Black out Fatty with a little bit of a Chrome ***** addiction?
You want my opinion....its bias. I'd go with the Lo.
It sits lower to the ground stock....keep your feet flat on the ground for better control.
The blacked out components it already has are of satin nature and not the wrinkle that you would find on a Train.
I liked the feel of the bars better, but you are already considering changing them out.
The wheels come black. You already priced the powdercoating of the wheels....but are you gonna dismount and remount and balance the tire and rim yourself? Probably not, so you have to keep that labor cost in mind as well.
I personally like the polished look over the chrome. That is a personal choice everyone has to make. Either one cleans up easily. Windex will be your new best friend.
Other than cosmetic and stance, the bikes are the same. Same motor, same tranny, same tires, same tins, same wheels. Just different colors. So it really comes down to seats and bars and height. Maybe consider your personal height as a helping factor since air ride suspension isn't top on your list.....

Bought a new brilliant silver pearl Fat Boy Lo last month to replace a black-and-chrome '06 model that got wrecked.
Personally, I love the "satin chrome" finish on the bike. It's different.
Black powdercoated the following: Standard Fat Boy handlebar on 4" pullback risers, layback license plate, gear shift linkage, and the rear brake lever. Powdercoated in "satin chrome" a hefty visor-style headlight trim ring and then inserted a black LED headlamp. Flush mount black fuel cap and gas gauge, brake and clutch levers, oil dipstick cap and black SE slip-on exhaust pipes covered in the satin chrome shields. It all comes together nicely and is much different from the countless "black-and-chrome" cruisers on the road.
Just my preference. Good luck with your decision.
