Default Intermittent ignition problems

Hey guys im having an issue with my 97 softail springer. Every so often the bike out of no where will just start skipping and lose all power then with what seems to be a click of a switch it comes right back. This happens at all different times, sometimes after riding for an hour sometimes after 15 minutes. I was told the bike has an Andrew's coil on it, does anybody know if the ohms should be the same as the stock coil? or any other ideas? thanks

Same problem just started tonight. Loose all power except for turning the switch to accessories but no ignition. Then bang, everything is back. What was your problem. Weird !

Sounds like the main breaker to me. It is on the front of the rear fender on my 99 Softail Custom. They sometimes will get weak and overheat, and then after cooling a bit it will close again. Something to check anyway.

A couple friends have EVOs, one with a Crane ignition, one with a Dynatek(?) Crane outright broke and the Dynatek had an intermittent miss as you describe. Turned out to be heat related. Some transistor or such had gone bad. The thing would overheat and shut down. At least that was what I was told. Tracing part time electrical problems is a pain and expensive. Start with the cheap stuff 1st. Coils do go bad.

I had a similar problem with my rocker and it turned out to be the start switch on the handlebar. Only 60 bucks to fix but a pain to diagnose!

Greetings Intermittent ignition problems

Have you searched for DTC codes, not sure if your bike has a computer or not, the problem may be with a connection to your computer cable under the seat loosing a signal and telling your fuel to shut off.

With the kill switch in the on or run position, press and hold the speed odometer in, then turn your main switch to the on position, the dials will perform a full sweep, turn loose of the speed odometer, does diag appear where your mileage is, if so press and hold for a second the speed odometer switch, when the diag goes away does letters appear. report back what you find.
