Default Need Help With Starter Switch

A few weeks ago my starter switch wouldn't return to the upright position after starting the bike. I needed to push it back up with up back up with my thumb. I removed the switch and the spring was there. However, I'm not sure how to put the spring in it's proper place.

On one side of the of the switch is around peg and the peg on the the other side is a star. These pegs hold the switch cover in place. Are either of these pegs used to secure the spring in place and in which direction would the spring go? If anyone has a pic, it would be great.

The spring should have a plastic cap on it that actuates the metal rocker plate. Usually that breaks. I have used a plastic button from a click style ball point pen. The spring must fit inside the cap. Had to take apart a few pens to find the right one though. Damm I'm cheep! good luck!

There was no plastic cap inside the housing. I figure it couldn't have fallen out since the spring was still in there. Where exactly would the cap go? Inside the switch cover or somewhere on the switch itself?

Usualy its a crunchy plastic and turns into little pieces. Take a known good switch apart to see what its supposed to look like.

Did you get anywhere with this Figstr?
My spring isn't even there. No broken bits of anything inside. I have no idea what I need to try and find or where it is supposed to go.
Lots of info about replacing the spring but no photos or pictures anywhere.
Cheers

You probably didn't notice but you posted to a nine year old thread. Figstr's last post and activity in this forum was in 2012.

For anyone to provide assistance, always note the year and model of your bike.

Edit: I just noticed you started a new thread about this.
