Posted already on the general chat section but no response ..... anyway on the Cyril Huze blog Harley are about to offer what they call Black Ice finish on certain wheel designs maybe they will get around to the Fatboy now that would look so cool and so right on the Lo! ....
Harley-Davidson claims that it’s not, that it’s not a chrome process and that they are the first to offer this treatment in the motorcycle industry.
Harley states that Black Ice is the product of a proprietary treatment that combines depth with a highly reflective surface. It’s a look that complements both chrome and black accessories, and many colors.
This new surface finish has been introduced on three custom wheel sets. Roulette custom wheels (P/N 43300116 17-inch front, P/N 40900113 16-inch rear; $549.95 each) and Agitator custom wheels (P/N 43300115 19-inch front, P/N 40900112 18-inch rear; $749.95 each), both for select 2009-later Touring models. Black Ice is also offered on V-Rod 5-Spoke wheels (P/N 55083-11 19-inch front, 55082-11 18-inch rear; $649.95 each) for the 2009-later V-Rod MuscleŽ and 2012 Night RodŽ Special.
I remember looking at this idea about 2 years ago when the dealer brought back from a stateside meeting a catalog with this concept in it ..... and like Harley does were testing public opinion before release so 2 years down the line as with the getting up to speed Moco they have announced them ...... Progress!
I really like the concept of that finish and how it looks. Black chrome is cool looking to begin with and the way HD is doing the black ice finish should be really sweet.
i love that finish, but if i end up gettin wheels that color, its gonna cause me to have other parts coated in it......i may be in trouble here
My original idea for my Lo was to have all of the satin and chrome parts plated in black chrome. I thought it would look really good with the black denim paint and I havent seen anyone else do it. I looked into the costs and it is really ridiculous. It costs 50% more than regular chrome plating so just as an example it would have been about $300-350 just for my primary cover.
I love the look and idea but it is still very costly to have done.
Everyone knows their financial limits and cuts their cloth accordingly ...... i view maybe differently from some i will wait that bit longer to get what looks right and different for my rides .... i dont want to be the same!
Does anyone know if you can use these wheels on an 07 by changing the wheel bearings for the 1" axle? I would think the hub bore is the same od as the 25mm axled ones.
I think I remember seeing spacer kits in the MoCo catalog that are for conversions... but I'm not sure. You don't need to do just the bearings... you also have to do the inner and outer spacers, probably, and you also have to get the axle to fit your lower legs.
