unknown oil leak
Finding an unknown leak source can be a beotch.
1. Wash the motor really good being sure to get all the oil off that you see.
2. DRY the motor, either air dry or with a dryer such as a leaf blower. DO NOT RIDE IT TO GET IT DRY. But make sure it's DRY.
3. Spray the motor with women's spray deoderant that has baby powder in it. COAT IT REALLY GOOD TILL IT'S WHITE AS SNOW.
4. Crank it up and let it idle. DO NOT RIDE IT. It won't take but a few minutes till the baby powder starts to get wet, showing you the exact location of the leak.

Actually your thinking about dusting a subject in flour to find the elusive wet spot.
Very different from the women's spray deodorant with baby powder, that tends to cake and flake off human flesh but sticks very well to dry metal for locating leaks.

Assume your talking were the voltage comes out of the primary from the alternator going to the voltage regulator. These rubber plugs start leaking after a lot of heat and age. Think yours is the two piece one. Trouble is its the inner one. Might try cleaning it good with brake clean and working some black rtv under the lip. Lot easier then pulling primary and replacing the stator which I think it is molded to wire coming off it
