Came home from work tonight and the bike was running hot. Looked around and seen some oil upfront, just did seem right. Any tips on where to start looking. The oil filter is tight so before I spend lots of time reading and cleaning and riding help me out. Thanks!
Years ago I as in Leadville Colorado when my RKC started leaking oil in that area. Could not tell where it was coming from and fairly quickly is was leaking fast. Roadside assistance took the bike to Aspen HD where they discovered it was the oil filter itself. The seam on the filter had failed. Worth checking this.
Very possible it just came from hidden areas that did not get cleaned up from the last filter change. Clean it up (I would just use a strong mix of liquid detergent and a long handle paint brush) and see if it comes back. Your overheating is probably just a reaction from the smell of cooking oil. The smell of cooking motor oil on a 240 degree engine smells like 400 degrees on the same 240 degree motor.
