Default Is that your motorcycle outside ?

Soon as I looked up at his face i knew he wasn't there to ask about it. I'll bet I just stared at him like a bear ready to freakin kill somebody before I even opened my mouth to say yes.. "I hit it" . Now i get visions of a big pile of junk lieing on the ground and i start to lose it right in the store before even seeing what the damage was. I have a very good vocabulary when I'm pissed so I was probably quite entertaining for the other customers in the store.

Anyway, stupid puke was parked next to me in giant rental truck and instead of backing out of the space before turning his whell, he just started to whip it around before the passenger saw the bike, but it was to late.. forunately he was just starting to side swip the exhausts before he stopped and didn't knock it over.. So about $850 to replace 3 heat shields (1 a V&H they say takes 4 to 6 weeks to custom make. They don't keep them on hand, WTF) and cause the HD shields were punched thru the headers were damaged.. I must say even though this is F'ed up, I felt better cause nothing else was damaged... and even though this guy is a stupid f##k, I give him credit for comming and facing me instead of just splitting.. All this cause I dropped a brass washer off the seat mount onto the garage floor never to be seen again and had to make a trip to the hardware store. Got options on the repair cost. Insurance will pay it but of course i got a $250 deductibe or he will pay me cash, but i told him this ain't no 1970 Pinto and it's gonna be expensive. I know why he offered to pay cash. Rental truck and/or he'll get his *** in a ringer from the company he works for if either find out.. Question for you guys. Thinking of doing it myself cause it's easy and i can save a few bucks if he pays me the cash.. Otherwise I'll let the dealer do it and let the insurance company dog him. Never taken the stock headers off and the service manual says use a HD special tool to remove the O2 sensors.. That true ? I got every tool in the book.. Thanks for listen to my misery

DAMN, that sucks. You might just want to do it yourself and pocket the rest.

Yeah, that really sucks, but it could have been soooo much worse. I'd just take the guys cash and do it yourself. Like you said, he was decent enough to fess up to it so if he comes good I wouldn't take it any further. Oh, and yes it would be easier to use the proper wrench, but I know for a fact that you can get by without. My big shots went on with nothing but a socket and a box-end wrench. Best of luck to you...

Be glad he came in and told you!

As for the special tool for the sensors, it makes it a bit easier but is not really needed. I got mine out with just a regular open wrench. No big deal. Just unplug the sensor from the harness, so you don't break the wires.

I agree with everyone of you it could have been much worse. Replacing those parts ain't much different than adding after market pipes as I think about it.. So it's still a new undamage MC in my mind. Body (Tins) damage repairs, even though maybe looking good, I would always know is there and that would bug me. And the guy coping to it 'is' pretty refreshing now a days.

Thanks for the info on the O2 sensors.. Just waiting for him to call me back and I'll go from there..

From my experience, I'd let the insurance handle it. I've rarely seen a "friendly deal" end up well for the person not at fault in something like this.
