Default Center stands: thoughts?

My neighbor has a center stand on his touring bike. It looked like a pretty trick idea, I have only seen them in a couple softails- mostly show bikes.
I like to look of the bike standing straight up, *** end slammed.
I was thinking of one for my bike but thought I'd check with you guys and see if there is a reason I see so few of them around.
Your thoughts? Pics if you have any. Also, when looking on eBay it seems they are all for touring bikes, is there a reason for that?

I had a center stand on my Fatboy. Installed it for the purpose of being able to lift the rear tire off the ground during emergency roadside repairs. Used it a lot for cleaning and garage maintenance. Had to remove it when I installed dual exhaust.

It was a very handy item. Wish I could have kept mine on but it wasn't compatible with the dual pipes.

I have one on my '07 Heritage. It's nice when parked in the garage on concrete, and I like it at the gas station, but I have scrapped both of the adjustable feet on turns.

Olong- what kind of pipes did you have? You don't still have the stand do you? PM me if you do, I'd be interested in a used one.

Had them on my GW yrs ago, called Ride-OFF stands.
Really liked it, easy to pull bike onto them, but it was sometimes hard to ride off of them on smooth concrete floors or the metal strips we had at work in the MC parking lots, they slid fairly easy on slick floors instead of coming up.

I've seen them for touring, but not yet have I seen them for Softies.
cornering would be a concern also if they touched first..

I was checking some out online and they looked like they went at the back of the bike, under the tranny.
The one my neighbor has is in the front, just rear of the down tubes.
