Default First big ride.. Apes??

So, finally got my night train out...
Put 60 miles on her with the 14 apes...
They suck!!
What bars do you guys find more comfortable for riding.... Not bar hopping...
love the bike, looks, bars...
But when I ride, I usually go more than a few miles...
I know it's subjective....
I'm 5'8" shorter arms...

I'm 5'-10", I have 14"s on a 2010 FLSTC, and did a 1600 mile long weekend jaunt in the UP and northern lower Michigan, and could not be happier.

Well I've got the stock 10", I love'em. I'm 6'1", standard reach. They're pushed alittle forward. I like the feel and the look. I'd like to try drag bars but on someone else's bike first. They might be to low for Me.

I don't know...
I just wasn't comfortable at all....
I like them, for looks, and general kicking it around...
But my 60 miles, I was done....

From what I can tell, it is pretty rare to hear someone go to apes and then regret it, but its not an outlandish thought. Everybody is different, so don't feel apologetic!

I took a bit of a risk because I'd never had apes before, and was experiencing some neck pain so I went taller and got lucky, I like them a lot. There is still some pain, but not nearly as much and on long trips the throttle lock is a god send for comfort.

This is why my next bike will likely be a Road King. I'll put 14"s on it and rock out with the bigger tank and cruise control.

interesting..what kind of apes you running ?? maybe its the angle of the bars or where your grips are vs your seat?? possibly something simple as changing the angle could help you out ?

When I gave Bill @ http://www.brcustomcycles.com/Home_Page.php the measurements I wanted, I stuck with stock width for hand placement, (28 inches ring finger to ring finger).

13.5 inches tall with 1.5 inch tall risers and lined up with the lines of the frontend. I'm 5'8" and they have my hands at shoulder height. Slightly lower if I sit up straight. I'm also short arm/long leg.

300-400 normal day rides are a pleasure now that I'm not reaching forward for the stock bars.

I don't drink, so I don't know if they would be more comfortable riding to a bar...
