Just out of curiosity, do you wear gloves while you ride? I rock the 18" Gangster apes myself and have no issue with comfort on long rides. However I did notice that when I wore my fingerless gloves, my right arm and hand would go numb. I found this to happen with one other pair of gloves I used to wear as well. I tend to ride without gloves unless I absolutely have to.

I wear fingerless gloves, no issues. I will say that on long rides I would prefer cruise control, but having a Softail, I need to use the throttle lock to rest my arms.
This would be true (and was) even with lower/stock bars.
I had no issues with mine until I put the bars straight, and that was the first time that I noticed neck/back cramps. Just back a few degrees and I can go all day.
I always wear fingerless gloves between June and September, but they were only an issue on the finger numbness aspect with the new poly bushings and grips (I did them at the same time in August), but that is only at highway speeds with the buzzing. Even noticed it slightly with the stock setup 2 years ago, and the stock 10" bars made me slouch. My wife complained of the same thing after I put the Willie G grips on hers, but then it went away after a few highway trips for whatever reason. Her bars are rigidly mounted with the rubber mounted engine. My son's has a rigid mounted engine with worn out riser bushings and you can't see jack out of the mirrors at any speed. I call his the Angry Monkey.
Interesting enough like I said, the past few trips this month wilth full gloves, I didn't notice any discomfort at all. The stock grips used to turn my hands black, so I usually wore some sort of gloves for that reason.
When i had my Night train i loved the way the stock drag bars looked! But i hated the seating position they put me in! Felt like a clam on crack. I was tempted to put apes on her but never thought they looked right on the bikes with the wideglide front ends! Anyway the stock bars on my 2012 Fatboy lo are freaking amazing! I dont know what they call them but they are the most comfy bars i ever rode with in my life!!
