Yeah man comfortable ride position is different for everybody, I didn't like the stock fatboy bars my back would get sore after about an hour. I've had apes on all my bikes it's good for me.
What's uncomfortable hands? shoulders? back?
I know a couple of guys that are same way, their hands go alittle numb with bars that are over chest high.
Maybe try rollin'em back some and see what happens.
Or just throw the beachbars back on, they looked pretty good on it.
Honestly, I felt odd and was worried when I bought my 06 SB with 10 inch Mini Apes but after a few miles they are great.
Recently bought a 1998 FB and even before riding it changed up to 12 inch Chubbie Apes. Again I was worried...Had to learn Floor Boards, Taller Bars....No big deal and very comfortable.
My take would be go try again or switch them out for 12 inch Apes.
Probably you are sitting way back on the bike, your quick fix is to loosen the risers bolts, and rotate the bar back a bit (5 minutes job), this will bring the bar closer and down an inch or so.
If this solves your issue, then you can keep it or if you didn't like the look, you can
1 - get a different seat that sets you closer to the bars.
2 - Get a Dog-Bone offset risers (I got those). they usually bring the bars back 2" but the looks are not for everybody.
