Greg,
-I hope your leaving soon brotha, because the weather will be changing in about 30 days.
- If your riding 2 up, get a wider passender seat or you will pay the price, if not no worries.
I'm leaving in October, but I'm head to the mountains of south Texas (desert rider). Your trip sounds like a better view adventure, so enjoy and ride safe brotha!
I used to live in Toldeo, Ohio and Lansing Michigan, so I know that route all to well as I traveled back to the family farm in central Illinois. My main suggestion is to avoid going through the Gary, Indiana bottlenck of Highways and along the southern Chicago suburbs. It can be a traffic nightmare. Unfortunatley, there aren't a lot of sights along that route, but it depends on how far you want to wander off the main course. Since you want to stick to the route and not wander far off, you'll mainly see a lot of flat farm country. If you want to see more "Americana", then take Highway 6 out of the Toledo area and head West on that. It's the old route than would be used to go to Chicago back in the day and it continues onward West from there.

I will be riding by myself... Found a good deal on ebay for a sissy bar bag and a couple of months ago I put on a good engine gard and some air horns..
I forgot about the bottle neck around Gary, thanks for the reminder.
I think the only weather I will have to deal with is rain.. Wont be the first time I get wet... keeping my fingers crossed.
As far as sites to see, I am hoping to not have to get to far off the main road. Im not sure how long it is going to take me to get to Waterloo Iowa, so the plan is to motor as much as I can on the way over, then on the way back I will figure how many hour/stops I can make. I also will be stopping up in Michagan on the way back to visit another friend in Livonia...
Basically I have no real plans, need to get away from the ball and chain for a while so I can think straight.. just grabbing the scooter and tent and hitting the road, figured I'd see some old shipmates that I haven't seen in 30 years...
I could always get off the main highways, but when I take the secondary routes then I run into a lot of time constraints because of all the small towns.
This is what happens when you go on a trip with no planning...
Thanks guys
G
