Bikenator,
You are correct and I am wrong.
When I got home from work I went to my bike and checked the oil dipstick. Sure it looks like o-rings, but upon closer inspection it is a molded rubber gasket. Sorry for the assumption and incorrect information.

when on the kick stand ( i refuse to say jiffy stand) is the oil level higher than the lowest point of the weld on the neck? if so its over filled. also when you ck the oil wipe the stick with a paper towel good before you replace it the oil will push out of the rubber as you reinsert it and eventually run down the neck.

Not necessary to apologize...the design looks like you said. Easy to get fooled by it.
The neoprene( I think) shrinks...it happened to me too. Mine has a very slight trace from my H-D oil temperature/level gauge after a long ride. A quick wipe and it's gone.

Mine has always seeped a little bit. I run one of Harley's analog temp dip sticks and have been using the current one for about five years now and never had more than a slight bit of oil on the side of the bag. I think it gives the bike a lil character and isn't that noticeable but I have a black oil bag. Might see it differently if it were chrome.

Aren't Harleys world renown for leaking oil?

I suppose it would be out of character of it not to leak at least a little oil.

Yes they all so seem to leak oil eventually, but usually out the rocker box.

Thanks all for the tips. I did notice that it only leaks on longer trips (an hour or more). I will try some of the tips given here and see what happens.

My current two and last Harley don't/didn't leak a drop which is more than I can say for my Hayabusa. that bike leaves puddles all over the garage floor...
