Default new softail custom

Im looking at buying a harley softail custom, an '09, with 10,275 miles on it. the dealer wants $15,995 and refuses to go any lower than $15,495. I believe the price is a little high. any thoughts? what would you pay or think is fair pricing? also the dealer only wants to give me $3000 for my 03 sportster with 7,000 miles on is a trade.

I did find another softail through a private seller, which is an '08 and has 1045 miles on it and asking price is $14,000 or best offer. I think this is a pretty good price. any thoughts or advice is appreciated. thank you

Buy the private sale, hopefully title in hand. You can beat either one up on price. Lowball and pack a lunch so u don't buy the first sight. Is it jerky? Yup, but screw em it's your money. Take several days to complete process.

I bought my 08 last year for $13,500 with 4200 miles on it. I would go with the private seller. That price that the dealer has is way to high.

They are seven on ebay for 13500 -15000 buy it now. Dealer is always going to want top dollar. Offer him somewhere between low book and his price. You know he made the same low offer to the person he got it from. You need to sell your's yourself. I have never been able to deal with a Harley dealer. Good luck. If it were me I would sell mine myself and then get one from a person at a fair price. A whole lot of work but I work evenings and have a flexible shift

thank you all for the replies. Im leaning more towards the private seller myself as it has lower miles and I think I could deal a lot better. I already have my mind set on selling mine outright.

I've said this in other posts too, but for 16K you can get a new 2011 softail

I was at the local dealer yesterday and they still had a new 2010 FXSTC there. I didn't talk to a salesman because I am not in the market for a new bike. The tag on it was $18K+. FWIW, I would say go with the private seller if you like the bike.
