I guess I worded my question poorly. Should have said......does the heel shifter get in the way while resting your foot on the floorboard?

Btw, thanks to the other responses. I'll probably try it with the heel shifter for a while. I can always take it off if it becomes a pia. Thanks again!

I've left mine on, but the only time I use it is to put it into neutral, as its a little easier with the heelshift.

Nothing to do with the boards, I just didn't like lifting my leg to shift every time. Now I just twitch my ankle up and I have a bit more room on the floor board. (sig pic was before I took it off. )

LOL, I'm just the opposite of most of the guys posted here. I love the heal/toe shift, always have, it's the only way to go IMO. In fact, I've put heal/toe on every bike I bought or built since 1974. I just love having all gears down. To me, it seems ridiculous to toe-up thru the gears, I hate it!

But that's just me, we all have our preferences, and my preference is all gears down.

I put an extension on the heel shift. Can't remember where I got it (prolly Kuryakyn). Gave me a little more floorboard space. Takes getting used to but I use the heel shifter about 90% of the time.

I couldn't seem to get my foot twisted all the way around enough to use it so I just removed it.

Didn't like mine at first but time will get you used to it. I now use the heel shifter when wearing flat shoes and the toe shifter when wearing riding boots. No problem with the floorboards.

Try them both for a while.......don't throw it away if you take the heel shift off......you may want to try it again. I like mine alot.....if I'm jumping thru gears getting on the highway I will use my toe but if I'm cruising somewhere I use the heel shift. I have adjusted it for a minimum amount of heel height and still be able to shift. I've taken two 3K mile trips in the last month and having room on the floor boards was not an issue. Kuryakyn makes some adjustable cruiser footpegs that mount in front/below the floor boards that gives you "leg" room to stretch and reposition your feet. They call them Extended Cruise Arm Mark IV.....sell for ~$180.00.
