I just bought some new grips for my deluxe and I'm wondering how hard they are to install? The parts guy at the dealership made out that it was really tricky, but I'm not sure I buy that, so I thought I'd ask you guys!
Pretty easy. May have to adjust your throttle cables afterwards but no big deal.
Good luck and take your time. Remember, you can't undo a scratch so go slow and take your time. Check throttle function afterwards, and then sit back and enjoy a frosty beverage as you admire your handywork.
I changed my grips to the Kuryakin Ergo's and did it in an hour or so.....it wasnt hard at all. Dealers want to make as much money as they can and will try and dissuade anyone from working on their own Hawg as much as possible.
Prior to removing the switch housing, make sure to shim the front brake lever with a 4mm thick piece of paper to keep from damaging the rubber boot on the front brake switch.

This is a key piece, right here.
Also, take a marker and mark where the nut is located on the clutch cable under the rubber boot, so when you loosen it, you can tighten it up to the exact same setting.
To me the only part that's a little tricky is making sure that you don't drop the two little pins that hold the throttle cable and throttle return cable when you remove the throttle grip.
Had a friend of mine not clued me in to that little trick prior to installing my new grips, I probably would have lost at least one of them.
