I was going to have the dealer install a factory security system on my Heritage Classic tomorrow. Is the system worth the cost? Is it easy to defeat etc. and are there any aftermarket options available>>
Only you can decide if installing one will give you the peace of mind you desire. If someone wants it bad enough, they will get it. I have heard of bikes being chained to a tree and it being stolen.
I have the security system on my 2011 Fatboy Lo, and the reason I got it is it came with the ABS. If some one really wants to steal the bike they are going to just pick it up and figure out how to bypass it later. If you get the alarm, it might stop some folks but those who really want it will ignore it any way when they pick it up and throw it in a truck. My point is, unless you chain it down or keep it home there isnt really a way to keep some one who is really determined to steal it. The alarm might give you peace of mind, but the best thing to do is get a good insruance and keep all of you recipts for the add ons.

I normally would care but with this bike you can start the bike without a key. On my Sportster and Dyna you had to a least have a key in to start the bike. With the setup I have now if you don't lock the ignition the bike can be started by anyone. The problem is sooner or later I will forget to lock the switch.
I like the current system; it's proximity based so it automatically arms/disarms when I'm close enough. No buttons to push like on my 2002 RK. I think there's a lock on the ignition, never have used it.
Have a look at the "Digital Guard Dawg" alarms, similar to the Harley item.....except you just plug n play. http://www.digitalguarddog.com/mm5/m...ry_Code=a10001
You dont need to get a Stealer to program the fob.
A good alternative??
