Can someone with a 08 softail service manual let me know what the wiring is for the fuel sender, i have to wire it into my 07 wiring. The new sender is 2 red wires just need to know which is ground and which is positive. the plug on the sender is labled "A" and "B"
Looked it up in my 2009 Service Manual and the 2009 Electrical one (should be same as 2008) ... no indication how to connect the sender ... I have attached the scans of that part of the wiring diagram, maybe it can help you or someone with better understanding of electrical stuff can explain ...
Fuel Sender-1 is the schematic out of the electrical manual, 2 and 3 are parts from the diagrams in the service manuals.
Noticed that the 2007 sender has an earthing tab on the back of the sender (it's in the pdf you posted about the bracket - figure 1 - #2) . Is it not the same for the 2008 sender? - Been a while since I took mine out of the tank, so don't remember.
yeah i got the 2008 sender and it doesnt have the ground that goes to the tank. and on the new sender it doesnt wire right up to the top plate it has a connector half way up that is not shown in the wiring diagrams. I am not sure why this sender doesnt need to be grounded to the tank but in the manual for removal it doesnt show it grounded. Thanks again for all the help
Ok so i made some progress today. Looking at the 2008 it had a ground to the top plate from the fuel pump ground wire. in the 2007 it has it from the ground wire from the fuel level sender. so i hooked up the 2008 level sender and used the second ground wire frome the 2007 harness and grounded it to the top plate. turned the ignition on and everything worked. the thing is it also worked without the second ground wire hooked up. so i am guessing that must just be a extra precaution so i will have it hooked up, I will hook it up like it shows in the adapter kit with a wire going into the top plate.
Now all i have to wait for is the dealer to get me the new fuel lines for in the tank and i can get this back together
