Would advise against the nostalgia. Have had them for 2 years and set to replace them shortly.
Due to curve & diamater of bars it is hard to find good looking pegs
Lowerportion sticks out too far and can hit the groundwhileleaningin a curve, scraping floor boards isexpected but the first time that crash bar hit pavement Ijust about soiled my trousers.
I have the mustache on mine. I can't use the built-ins... putts my knees up too high. I added pegs. Still love it, and I like the black on it.
Quality of the bar is great, but the footpads are glued on and one of mine came off. Some superglue fixed that.
When your footpad came off,did the portion of the bar that was under the pad, look the same as the rest of the bar? No difference in the chrome and no holes? I am thinking of installing the Mustache on my Fat Boy, so I have a lower area toadd running lights. I would remove the rubber pads, so I was hoping the bar looked okay under the padarea.

How could you possibly hit the engine guard bar in a turn????Yeah, mine has hit the pavement but only when..ya know....ya step off without putting down the kickstand.
For the Deluxe i think the nostalgic bar suits the best.I prefer the moustache bar on Fatboys but for the Heritage and the Deluxe gotta be the nostalgic bar.Put some pegs on it,adjust them accordinglyand away you go.
I chose the standard chrome gaurd for my Deluxe. When I bought my bike in Dec. 2004 HD did not offer a hi-way peg mount bracket yet for the nostalgic bar, theus the standard bar. I had the hi=-way bar save my RK once when I slipped on a wet river ferry deck. I wouldn'tbe withouta guard. Also a great place to mount those matching pegs.
Hey Dunk 2,
I was in the same predicament a little over a month ago.
I had the nostalgic engine guard as it came with the bike. Seen here:
My friend, BB06FLHX's wife, bought the same bike as mine...literally, same colors, year, everything. But...that was soon to change.
She purchased the chrome guard for her Deluxe. Both she and I had major bike transformations.
Part of the transformation was swapping the engine guards. I have her chrome one, which was powder coated gloss black, and she has my nostalgic one, powder coated flat black.
Part of my decision making including the thought of the mustache guard. I weighed all my thoughts on all three and made the decision to go with the chrome guard. As you can see on my latest photos, the powder coated bar goes well with the frame and also ties in with the back end/swing arm which is also black.

Need one for sure on a lady's bike they drop them from time to time.
My thought exactly Dunk 2! And this lady doesn't drop her deluxe! Many of us put them on for the look/style.
I'm very happy and proud to see a lot of women riders getting of the back b*#$@ pad and driving these awesome machines!
