hey guys, just an update....

i got the primary cover off, as well as the starter gear thats in the primary case.

the starter cover is off, and i can still only get to one bolt without taking the oil tank off..

i drained the oil, and attempted taking it off earlier for only about 20 minutes. any tips in doing this, it seems like a PITA

so guys, im pretty much set on everything except getting the oil tank out..... i tried a few times but its still in there...... i can see 4 bolts, and i assume thats all of them, but each one is hard to get to. 2 in the battery tray, and two on the from bottom of the tank. the 2 bolts on the front bottom of the tank i got out, but the tank has tabs that got on each side of that mount, so you cant slide the tank out unless you lift it over this and i dont think theres enough room...

anybody know what im talkin about? i can take a pic if needed.

not sure if anybodys still reading this thread, but i finally got the oil tank off (i was taking off the oil tank bolts, which there is no room to do, and instead took off the enitre bracket behind it)

i also got the starter off, so now i am trying to determine what i need to do to fix it, or if i should just buy a new one.

any advice is appreciated. thanks!

Take the advice from RoadKingHarry and call All-*****. Replace the entire starter.

I unfortnately only changed the starter clutch on mine a few months back. Now I wish I'd replaced the entire stater assembly.

My symptons was the starter 'free spun' upon hitting the switch.

why do you wish you replaced your whole starter, did it fail again?

Tony, I've had two of these starters and very good service from them.
I have one in my current bike which has a 95" EVO motor in it. Starts
it with no problems. The price is right also. You might consider it.
Also I would recommend getting manual push button for the solenoid.
Good luck with your repair.

I wonder about those darn starters sometimes. Some people have no luck, while others do a simple brush and clean then ride for another 5 years without issue. My stock 1.2kw starter quit with only 6800 miles. I replaced it with a 1.4kw starter and only time will tell how long it will last.
