Softail starter advice needed
Still got my 68 Dodge Charger from 1976.
ive been calling around and these are my current prospects, as i dont wanna pay the local harley place 500 bucks...
i was skeptical since they were so cheap, but i called the some of them and they mainly said that they were cheap because all they do is starters and they arent cheaply made and they havent had any come back. they also come with a 1 year warrantly.
here they are
this is the one pops2ride sent me, its along the lines of the others below. its a 1.75kW for $171
http://www.bkrider.com/bkrider/skuse...eria=C01003081
this one is a 1.4kW for $160 (scroll part way down)

this one is a 1.2kW for $115, but they said they would be getting more 1.75's in soon and they werent much more...

let me know what you guys think of these
now for my responses....
pops2ride- thanks, i may buy that one. what is a manual solenoid button? so i can make sure whatever one i get has it.
big H- i hear ya.... id like to clean mine and try it, but since it was a pain to get it out (remove oil tank, primary cover etc) well not a huge pain, but for a 1.75kW under 200 i think its worth it. and its winter so i have no rush
nick- i keep my stuff forever too.. my father gave me this bike and i will never sell it.
rickiemack- i dont know what the compression release is, let me know and ill check. i will try calling them 2moro, as well as all *****
i made some calls today and i think im ready to buy i just wanted someone to verify im making a good decision....
a bunch of places had them for 130-170 but they only had a one year warranty.
i called all ***** and they said 320 for a black one with a lifetime warranty. they also said that i should only get a 1.4kW because the stock starter (1.2) turned it over fine, and that bigger isnt always better. that the 1.75 would just be a waste of money, and drain the battery more.
i told that to bk rider on the phone and the guy told me he could get me the all ***** starter (the 320 dollar one) for $220. that it was black, 1.4kW, same part number. and that i still get the lifetime warranty i just need to save the receipt (which is no problem).
to me the 220 with lifetime warranty seemed like the right choice. any confirmation? thanks

Or... start by borrowing a nearly new battery from a buddy if yours isn't new (I don't care what the voltmeter says) and see if that fixes the problem... oops... forgot... you already started pulling it down. (That was what was wrong with my starter.)

button will replace the outboard cover on the solenoid. It gives
you the ability to manually operate the solenoid. My starter from
BKrider came with one but haven't needed to use it yet. Its a
life saver if your battery fails to turn over your motor.
I know some of the guys on here have rebuilt their starters but
its just to much of a hassle to pull the starter to take that risk,
IMHO.
I have a 95" EVO motor in my bike with the BKrider 1.4KW
starter and have not had any problems. Good luck with your
task.
