Default 2008 Crossbones Issue: Bumping Sensation

Hey Gang,

The last few times that I have been riding my Bones I have noticed on decel a sensation that I can only describe as being similar to having a lump on your tire. I feel it mostly on decel when I have the clutch in. I've tried to see if I can feel the same thing when I decel by breaking only. At one point I thought I only felt it while clutching but as time goes on I think it is doing it all the time but I feel it less if at all during acceleration and while running at speed because it is masked by the normal vibrations of the bike. It does not seem to be coming from the front and I feel like its coming from underneath me either from the tranny or the rear wheel. I checked my front and rear as far as tires, rotors, breaks, alignment, belt tension and even did a clutch adjustment because when I first noticed it I realized that my clutch cable was pretty lose. It seemed to remedy for a bit but I have noticed it again over the last few days. Also, there is no sound of any kind evident with the problem. It is strictly sensation.

Any ideas what this might be?

Thanks,

Skeez

Not that anyone cares since I got no replies but I have taken my Bones to the shop and it turns out tuat my rear rim is bent on one side hence the bouncing/thumping sensations. Evidently, because of the bent rim, a flat spot was being created on my tire. The shop suggested a new wheel, bearings, and new tire and tube. Total cost would be over $900. The good news is that i called my insurance company and told then that i suspected it was something that happened in my accident from last year. They looked at the bike and have agreed to pay for a new wheel and bearings and the labor to swap everything out. The downside for me is that if i want a new tire, I have to pay for it myself. The reasoning being that I put 5k miles on the bike before reporting the problem and had I had it checked out sooner it could have been fixed before the tire became worn. I thought that was fair. $200 for a new tire is better than $900 for the whole mess. Plus I look at it as if i were replacing my tire as I normally would which is once a year right around this time when my tire reaches around 12k miles.

Glad to hear what the problem was. Would have hated to hear it was a systemic bones problem. Sounds like you made out ok.

I guess that's good news and bad news, Skeez. I guess it could've been worse than a cost of a new rear tire. Are you going to have them both replaced to keep them on the same schedule?

Well I am still on my original factory front tire after 30k + miles and it still looks like it has plenty of life so I don't feel the need to change it. This will be the third rear tire change I will be doing (literally once per year right around 12k miles) and I have never been told that I need to swap out the front simply to keep both tires on schedule.
