I dislike the look of a tank lift on softails, and all bikes except for sportsters for that matter. I think that it really disrupts the flow of the bike.
Just my opinion. I even bought one for my bike and then decided against putting it on.
FX Softail has always been a real good looker from the day the first one rolled out back in '84. Had 2 of 'em myself, & will someday own another. Here are some great mods:
The best thing you can do to an FX Softail is to lower it in the rear ;no more than 1" or you run into issues.
Dump that goofy lookin' pillow seat for either a LePera (best lookin' seats IMHO) or a NightTrain Badlander. Dramatically de-dorkifies the whol jen-a-say-kwa of the bike. But save the goofy pillow for long rides.
I know apes are popular, but drag bars & risers ala NightTrain gives bike a "F*** you" attitude comin' down the road, and really FEEL Harleyish. And look particularly good on an FX Softy. But that's just my opinion.
