I totally agree. I'm a painter myself and I gotta tell you if it takes that long for paint to "cure" he did something wrong. Once you add hardener the paint has no choice but to get hard or "cure". Some painters can be the biggest bs'ers you could ever meet! And +1 on the half down half when it's done idea! My opinion's that he may have had an undesireable result because of the cold and doesn't want to tell you about it and by the sounds of it he never took anything off your bike to prep and paint it. You mentioned that he had to cover the intake to do the prep. Which tells me he's making it a lot more work than it needs to be. That just adds more variables to how a job turns out.
He's painting a set of new ABS saddlebags. The problem is I bought the bags from an ebay'er and he sent them to "his" painter of choice. The painter hasnt been paid yet, but the ebay'er has been paid in full by me. He's got til Tuesday to get me a shipping tracking number, or im calling my credit card company and having them reverse the charges. Hopefully it will all end well. It could be worse I guess. Im not really riding the bike much until I leave for Daytona in March. I am mostly frustrated because I know the ebay'er has been stalling and bullshiting me. He has tons of satisfied customers and testimonials, so hopefully he'll come through. He did lose a customer though. I own my own company and wouldnt have one for long if I treated my customers like that
This is why we have been saying; choosing the right painter is far more important than choosing the right paint job.
You cannot produce quality paint jobs without having proper shop temperature. Yes, you can make the paint stick and eventually dry, but we are not talking about painting a house! Modern automotive paint is designed to be applied within a controlled environment to assure quality & longevity.
This is one of the main reasons why the Motor Co. approached Colormania in 1999 to custom paint 1000s of bikes for them, they knew from research that our paint jobs had passed the TEST OF TIME!
There are 1000s of custom painted bikes on the road with a Colormania paint job that is older than 10 years and still looking brand new!
If your painter is doing prep or paint work below 68F, you need another painter.
