Default Mod Madness...Is This Normal?

I must of googled, read, bookmarked, etc...thousands of pics and reads concerning what I want to do with my Lo in the past 6 months. I remember last year when I first bought it, thinking 'eh lil engine work and a few accessories only'....and a few of you snickered 'ya right'. Now I am looking at least $10k in engine work and candy when it's all said and done. Well there is an end to this madness soon (x's fingers)...I have sure flip flopped between ideas and concepts every week it seems. Bottom line once bought, I accept it and move on to next project without regrets kn0wing I did my best researching and piecing the puzzle with a few misses...I only have a couple parts wasted during this process....but everyday it seems I am closer to the final product and vision. And that is good thank gawd!!! End of the day I know my baby will be mine for years to come...and that is what counts.

Anyways, I am curious what I have and still going through is normal when it comes to evolving one's bike? I sure the hell hope so or call me mad! How many of ya went through the same madness?

Cheers!

On the "Lo" thread, it is probably the norm. In the rest of the world or at least the world around me, probably not. Personally, I've met people who dumped money and then dumped even more money into their bikes. Then they sold their bike to help finance their next project. For them it was not about the ride (or perhaps, not even about the bike), it was about the build. The never ending project to keep tinkering with something.

Aye...I need to never visit the Lo thread again lol. I know for a fact that soon as the snow melts and it's time to do the weekly A&W meets...I will realize that I have gone overboard. But no way in hell will I get rid of it now...it's like a limb to me now!!!

I see allot of obsessive modding on here and it makes me feel better about my own affliction. TNB has a valid point though, I do like to tinker as much as I like to ride and I wonder if in a few years I will be ready to sell it and move on to an SG or something like that and start over again.

Its hard to go slow once you get bit by the mod bug, every small change makes it that much more unique to just you and for some it becomes a standard that represents who they are (or who they would like to be).

Then again some of the guys Ive met who had the most pride rode the rattiest bikes and wouldn't have it any other way...either way you are making a statement with your bike. Its always been that way hasnt it? Even in the Cafe and sport bike sub-cultures.

I work up in northern Canada where guys do the same to sleds. Atm guy I am working with has a fatboy with hardly any mods, but is pretty damn proud of his insane 'motor on skis' that he dumped crap load of cash on. So ya it's pride indeed.

Is it the mad that are drawn to this Forum, or the Forum that drives us all mad?

I see lots of riders that keep their bikes stock or mod a little. Then I sign on here and I see mod addiction!! The HDFs!!! I think it takes a gearhead to frequent a site like this. Then you get to see all the mods on all the sweetass sweet bikes and it becomes like a kid in a candy store. ' Boys don't grow up, their toys just get more expensive.' I have always been mod happy to my cages. But this site just took it to another level with my Fatboy.

Indeed. Why I refered to my A&W meets....knowing reality will set in when 99% bikes there screams stock with a only a few mods. And every owner is just as proud as me. Kind of embarrassing for me when I think of it. Ya this site is bad for us Canadians and our parked bikes getting into trouble....but I know everytime I step into the garage...yaaaaa baby!

I see alot of folks going all out and the chain of inspiration is handed forward...it's great to see. But my question is more about the dizzy process of evolving our bikes. So many choices, ideas and etc...to deal with while making it your own. Most folks know exactly what they want...or go through this also?
