Default does your crash guard mount look like this?

i just got a 2011 deluxe and the crash guard was clearly used to keep the bike from getting damaged. when i took the bars off i noticed the mount was convex. is this normal for you with an flstn? if not, what is going on here?

thx - tin

It looks quite a bit like this pic, don't it? The owner of this bike hit a bad pot hole at a very low speed and went down on his crash bars. The insurance company total his bike because of the bent frame, based strictly on what you see in the picture.

Fortunately he was able to keep the bike, straighten the frame and expects ride again. But the bike will be issued a salvage title.

Same bike after straightening the frame:

If you want to determine if your frame is bent, you can take your hands off the bars while riding to see if it steers straight. If it doesn't steer straight, check your rear wheel alignment to be sure that it's correct. If the rear wheel is aligned correctly and it don't steer straight, the frame is most likely bent.

Good luck on that.

The one on my bike is flat. Not 100% convinced that just cause that piece is bowed the frame is bent, but im no expert. If the bike rides nice i would just pretend i never saw that.....

Wow Dude, sorry!! I feel for you cause somethin ain't right there!! I think I would go back and ask some questions at the very least. Did you buy from dealer or private? If it was dealer I would raise some hell. I got peeled real bad once on a used car and I raised so much hell they took the car back. Like the one guy said, the risk of buying used at it's worst in your case it looks like. I would do that road test right away, driving with no hands and see whats up then go to a very good mechanic and get thier opinion and go from there. Keep us updated and again, sorry.

thanks, but no problem. i knew what i might be getting into when i bought it. it's on me, but i'm an optomist. looking at the structure of the frame in that area i cant see how i could bend the entire structure, but i am admittedly no expert. i will hope to get some more guidance here and have it checked out.

appreciate the comments.

Mine's obviously been dropped on the right side, and that bar, rather than being convex, is bent into a slight s-shape, as you would expect. As the mounting bar is very flimsy compared with the strength of the 2 downtubes, I think it's unlikely the frame is bent. More likely the thin bar will have stretched, and your convex one may be an attempt by someone to knock an s-shape out?
It's hard to imagine any force from the protection bars that would pull it out like that.

Keno. Was it totaled with a bent frame or was it ok?
