Default modifying my windscreen

Hi all: I am looking to add aux lighting to my 2008 fatboy. I have a standard wide windscreen. It is my understanding that I will have to replace the windscreen if I mount the lights. But can the windscreen be modified to accommodate the lights? I have not looked closely at a bike with aux lights and a windscreen to note the differences.

Thanks, Chris.

I think they don't come in contact with the standard windshield, just the big headlight.

If it is just the screen and no metal in the way,you can cut out for the lights,
All you need is painters tape and a jigsaw, and some sand paper.

That is what I am hoping for, although I wonder if the windscreen mounts might get moved or otherwise altered by the aux light kit.

On my Heritage, the windshield and mount completely miss the running lights. It's just cut out for the headlight.

Thanks for the replies. This may seem kind of a dense question, but does the headlight get moved up when the aux lights are installed? Based on the responses above, they imply the headlight gets moved up as that is the only way the windscreen could possible interfere with the headlamp.

No, headlight doesn't move. Not sure why you feel your windshield will interfere with the auxiliary lighting? Some windshields indicate that they aren't compatible with aux lighting, but pics would really help. I have removable windshields, two different ones that I use based on circumstances, and neither comes close to interfering with the shield.

The aux lighting installs below the headlight, so it shouldn't get in the way as far as I can figure?

Post up some pics so we can help sort it out...

Roger

That is my point. I own one of these.

" ... Detachable King-Size Windshield for FL SoftailŽ Models

Windshield kit includes all the hardware required to fit FLSTC, FLSTF and FLSTN models without auxiliary lamps. ..."

The question is: Can these be modified to work with the lights?

I used a roto Zip to cut my shield down 2''. worked like cutting butter.

same as above said, if U need to cut just the shield, U'r fine, just don't cut the frame part of it..

The windshield for aux lights is slightly wider at the mount points to accomodate the bracket holding the lights. That's the reason for the two part numbers. You can use the wider one (Heritage style) on a non aux light model by shimming out the rubber mounts, but the non will not fit with aux lights.
