extra money? I've always read the aside from labor and/or having your heads ported, the 107" kit from Fuel Moto is cheaper than the HD 103"

It will cost the same no matter which you do. The numbers are about the same with the 107" just a stronger. but not by much. When it comes down to everyday riding they are both the same. Now if we rode dyno's then go with the 107" all the way. I'd go with whatever you can do at the best price. I did a 103 kit as I got a great deal on it. If you are boring your jugs then the price is the same

I went with a 103" build for several reasons; which may or may not apply to your situation:

First, I ride a lot. So making an error on the side of caution appeals to me. This is a personal matter, not really a technical issue.

Second, a 103" build leaves me a bit of room to freshen to motor later should I choose to do so,

Third, within the scheme of things, I don't see the 107" motor delivering that much more power than a 103" unless I do a good bit of work to the heads.

Fourth, between my choice of a 103" build and the camshafts I used I have managed to skate right on the edge of needing compression releases. Had I gone with a 107" build I would have needed to install compression releases because of the impact that the extra displacement would have had on the compression ratio of the engine (assuming that I didn't change to different cams).

I can't speak to the 107, but I am happy with my SE 103 stg 2 kit. All for pretty much the same reasons Bluehighways list. There are a lot of folks on this forum have pretty strong feelings against the MoCo set up, but I am quite happy with it. It works well for how I ride. It has been running fine for 2 years.

I've seen several 110" come into HD with carbon buildup. These guys are buying expensive 110" and riding them like a show bike. If you get a big motor, ride it like one and you won't have that build up. I'm fine with the 103". Get it up in the power band and runs out nice. I'd only go bigger if I had a reason to, not for bragging rights. That's not to say if I had a bigger one than a 103", I wouldn't enjoy it and run the hell out of it.

Last time I checked carbon buildup has nothing to do with engine size. But what do I know. I am putting together my 107 right now so we will see how it works out.
